Formula
eGFR = 142 × min(Scr/κ, 1)^α × max(Scr/κ, 1)^−1.200 × 0.9938^age × 1.012 [female]; κ = 0.7 (F) / 0.9 (M), α = −0.241 (F) / −0.302 (M), Scr in mg/dL. The equation does not use race.

Frequently asked questions
- What is eGFR?
- An estimate of how much blood plasma the kidneys filter per minute, normalized to a body surface area of 1.73 m².
- Is one low value enough for a diagnosis?
- No. Chronic kidney disease is diagnosed when eGFR < 60 or signs of kidney damage persist for more than 3 months.
